In 2006, DHOC teamed with the DuPage Housing Action Coalition to address the growing local need for attainable workforce housing. We convened over 160 builders, developers, lenders, government officials, employers and other community leaders at Benedictine University to engage in a dialogue to identify barriers impeding production of single-family starter homes.
That event became the genesis of Homeownership: A Benchmark for a Vital Community. The event attendees identified a host of issues that affect workforce housing development, many of which could be addressed through local policy changes. The Benchmark movement seeks to create the political will for policy change through education, outreach and advocacy. A Steering Committee co-chaired by Paul Colgan and Dave Faganel oversees the effort. For more information, contact DHOC at (630) 260-2500 or info@dhoc.org.
